PRESS REVIEWS

Aladdin
Produced by Rhodes Arts Complex(Bishops Stortford)

"...It’s surprising what you can fit onto a small stage; set designer Michalis Kokkoliadis and costume designer Jules Dale fill it with colour, sumptuous fabrics, a few necessary artefacts and draw curtains which have just the right degree of non-realism."

Anne Morley-Priestman, What’s On Stage 12 December 2009

Peter Pan
Produced by Chalkfoot Theatre Company, Open Air Touring

"...I admired Michalis Kokkoliadis' neat set with its beds which turned into Neverland greenery and then into the deck of the Jolly Roger... and convincingly represent the flying with arm-waving and seesaws. Chalkfoot's inventively interpretation of Peter Pan is a must for family audiences this summer."

Susan Elkin, The Stage (London), Thursday 5 July 2007

"..the production tackled the story of Wendy and John Darling's encounter with Peter Pan with ingeniously simple set design, aided by an appropriate sprinkling of make believe. Children miraculously "flew" thanks to small see-saws built into the stage."

.Chris Tracy, Eastern Daily Press (Norwich) 16 July 2007

NOMAn's lands "

A found object installation of Michalis Kokkoliadis's "NOMAn's lanDS" is a site- specific installation which eludes in title and content to the play by Harold Pinter and the common fate of individuals in society as we "walk along the same path". The decaying fabric of the tobacco warehouse bathroom is strategically adorned with the debris of every day human routines. Dimly lit there is also the encroachment of fresh vegetation. This confined space is probably the most disturbing and at the same time fascinating contemplation site or focus of the entire exhibition. Behind the closed door the visitors to this show spends more time than in any other exhibit for whatever reason; we can only speculate. There seemed to be something supernatural about the mundane inevitability suggested by this piece, which was created by an artist who spends much of his time working in the theatre.

"..Frenetically paced comedy in The 39 Steps"
European Arts, Touring in Greece

"... As the action moves from London to Scotland, the actors continuously reconfigure Michalis Kokkoliadis's ingeniously simple set of just a few trestles, planks and ladders to the Forth Bridge, a Railway carriage, an
aeroplane or a bed."

The Seven Deadly Sins Of The Petty Bourgeoisie
Produced by Arcola Theatre

"...Meanwhile Michalis Kokkoliadis's design defines the setting with a rag-bag of period costumes and a hint of a constructivism at the backdrops. Skilfully staged and played, it is a clear-eyed and lyrical analysis of both brutish capitalism and the wider venality of the social order.

Patrick Marmion ,Time Out , May 2003

The Country Wife
Produced by First Rung Theatre Company

"What first strikes you about First Rung' s production of William Wycherley's Restoration comedy is how beautiful it looks. Michalis Kokkoliadis's set and costumes are a pleasure to look at, with tremendous attention to detail and historical accuracy. There are many levels and props and they are not let down by the performances....".

Victoria Worsley, The Stage (London), November 14, 2002

Jitterbug
Produced by Arcola Theatre, London

"...Actress Ruth Posner in particular warms to appeal of this delicate writing, and the designer Michalis Kokkoliadis's clever set of free floating steps and changing locations charts the promised path across time and place..."

.Helena Thomson London Net, November 2001

Plebeians Rehearse the Uprising
Produced by Arcola Theatre, London

"...Director Mehmet Ergen manages his highly motivated troupe of actors with aplomb, handling the big set-pieces scenes with the workers particularly well. The evocative design of Michalis Kokkoliadis captures the time and place superbly and the use of projections is particular effective...."

Sophia Veil What's On in London , June 2001
